About Me

About My Coaching Journey

Before I became a coach, I knew what it felt like to be successful on paper but unfulfilled on the inside. I had checked every box: military service, advanced degrees, senior leadership roles. But something deeper was missing. That realization changed everything for me, and it’s why I help others find their clarity now.

I’m Dr. Mark A. Mitchell, a certified life, career, and leadership coach, Associate Certified Coach (ACC) through the International Coaching Federation, proud Air Force veteran, and founder of Pay Attention Coaching. With 30+ years of professional experience across the military, private sector, and federal government, I’ve led high-performing teams, managed multimillion-dollar projects, and mentored professionals at every stage of their growth. But none of it compares to the work I do now: helping individuals uncover their purpose and move forward with confidence.

Over the years, I’ve coached veterans navigating civilian careers, educators ready for a second act, and professionals burned out from chasing goals that no longer serve them. Like the senior leader who found balance after decades of overwork, or the first responder who reclaimed her sense of identity after years of self-sacrifice. Coaching with me is not about quick fixes. It’s about honest insight, realignment, and the kind of transformation that lasts.

So what does that journey actually look like for clients who choose to work with me? Here's what you can expect from the experience.

What Coaching Clients Can Expect

Coaching is a powerful, forward-focused partnership designed to help you create the life you truly want. When you begin coaching with me, you step into a space intentionally created for your growth: a space of clarity, challenge, encouragement, and possibility.

Clients can expect more than just meaningful conversations. You can expect real breakthroughs. Our work together is strategic and personal, grounded in your values, focused on your goals, and driven by your vision for what’s next. We will identify what’s holding you back, reframe limiting beliefs, and design clear, actionable steps that lead to lasting change.

You won’t just create goals. You’ll build momentum, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with a stronger, more capable version of yourself. You bring the willingness to grow. I bring the structure, insight, and accountability to help you make it real.

Whether you're navigating a career change, rediscovering your purpose, or learning how to trust yourself again, coaching gives you the space and support to move forward with intention. If you're ready to stop settling, let’s talk. Your next chapter starts with a single bold decision, and that decision begins now.

What is life coaching?

Life coaching is an inspiring partnership that helps you bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. With insightful questions, active listening, and unwavering support, coaching helps you clarify your aspirations and establish meaningful goals. How is coaching different from therapy or consulting?

Coaching is an exciting journey that celebrates the present and future, steering clear of past traumas. Unlike consulting, which offers expert advice, coaching empowers you to uncover your own insights with heartfelt support and guidance. It’s all about moving forward, rooted in your unique strengths and values, unlocking your full potential!

Can you have coaching with therapy or counseling?

Yes, coaching can complement therapy. Therapy focuses on healing past trauma or mental health concerns, while coaching supports present goals, personal growth, and forward momentum. Many benefit from both: a therapist for healing and a coach for clarity and direction. It is essential to keep both professionals informed to ensure coordinated and ethical support.

I'm excited to partner with individuals who are ready to thrive and embrace positive change in their lives! Whether you're going through a transition, feeling a bit stuck, seeking deeper fulfillment, or looking to unlock your full potential, I'm here to support you every step of the way. You'll walk away with enhanced self-awareness, actionable strategies, and a renewed sense of empowerment. Our approach is tailored to your unique goals and personal growth—celebrating your individuality!

How long is a coaching engagement?

Coaching is an exciting journey, not just a one-time chat! Many clients start with a 3- or 6-month commitment for meaningful progress, and I'm eager to work together to shape a timeline that perfectly aligns with your unique goals and aspirations.

Do you accept Healthcare plans or Medicare?

Pay Attention Coaching is a private coaching practice and does not bill health insurance or Medicare. Coaching is not considered a medical or clinical service, so healthcare plans do not typically cover it. However, some clients use Health Savings Accounts (HSAs) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSAs) to cover the cost of coaching. Please check with your provider to determine if coaching may be eligible.

What if I’m in crisis or need immediate support?

If you are in emotional distress, feeling unsafe, or experiencing a mental health crisis, coaching may not be the right immediate resource. Please get in touch with a licensed mental health professional or reach out to emergency services. You can call or text 988 in the U.S. to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, which is available 24/7. Your safety and well-being are the top priority. Once you are in a more stable place, coaching can be a valuable part of your continued support and growth.

Do you offer any discounts or special pricing?

Yes. Pay Attention Coaching offers special pricing for veterans, first responders, and students. Discounted rates are available to make coaching more accessible to those who serve or are in school. If you qualify or have financial concerns, let’s discuss options during your Discovery Call to find a plan that suits your needs.
